ABOUT OUR PET THERAPY SERVICES

HOW IT CAN HELP

Our Pet Therapy Service can improve a person's sense of purpose and self-worth, communication skills, social skills, self-esteem, trust and respect.

Animal-assisted therapy has proven to be of benefit to people suffering from mental health issues, stress, bereavement, emotional problems and loneliness.

OUR PETS

We have a large range of therapy pets including various breeds of dogs, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, African Pygmy hedgehogs and a tortoise. All of our animal pets have a lovely temperament.

WHAT HAPPENS?

Structured sessions can be introduced to involve specific goals for the client/ patient which we can assist with.

Examples of goals, which are always set in agreement with the individual, include improving gross movements, such as trunk or limb mobility through reaching out to stroke dogs or throwing an object to retrieve.

Fine motor movements: for example, movement of the hand or fingers through clipping and unclipping of leads or collars.

Sessions can be delivered in 1 to 1 or a group setting. We also offer phobia sessions.

How AAPT Decreases Anxiety & Stress

In today's fast-paced world, many individuals struggle with phobias, anxieties, and workplace stress. One emerging and delightful solution is animal-assisted therapy, particularly involving our furry friends—dogs and rabbits! Not only do these lovable companions provide comfort and joy, but they also play a significant role in therapeutic settings, especially in schools and universities.

Overcoming Phobias With Furry Friends

Overcoming Phobias with Furry Friends Phobias can be crippling, making daily tasks seem daunting. Animal-assisted therapy has proven effective in helping individuals confront and manage their fears. Dogs, known for their loyalty and affectionate nature, can act as bridges to overcome anxiety triggers. Their nonjudgmental presence provides safe emotional support, enabling individuals to face their phobias gradually.

The School & University

The Results

Both schools and universities are recognizing the benefits that animal therapy can bring to students' mental health. With the pressures of exams and social challenges, students often feel overwhelmed. Integrating therapy animals into campus life gives students an opportunity to unwind and reset. Whether through scheduled therapy sessions or ‘petting days,’ having dogs or rabbits available for students fosters a sense of community and support. The presence of these animals can break down emotional barriers, allowing students to express themselves freely. This encourages honesty about their feelings and builds a unique camaraderie among peers

Stress Reduction In The Workplace

Environment

The workplace can be a source of significant stress, impacting productivity and overall well-being. Introducing animal-assisted therapy in office settings is becoming a popular trend. Dogs, with their playful antics and affectionate demeanour, can provide much-needed stress relief. Studies show that interaction with these pets can lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and elevate mood significantly. Rabbits, when brought into a workplace environment, offer a unique charm. Their quiet nature and needing less interaction can offer a peaceful respite during a hectic workday. Simply watching a rabbit hop around or petting one can induce relaxation, fostering a more serene work atmosphere.
